Brought up in Ireland and now working from her south London Atelier, Úna uses traditional leather-working techniques in the development and refinement of her distinct construction identity of leather panelling joined with brass fittings. Applying this construction to all of her creations, Úna makes both seasonal fashion accessories collections and larger sculptural art pieces. The accessories collections consist of handbags, belts, jewellery and abstract body pieces, while the art pieces are figurative in form and are developed on a commission basis for private art collections, public exhibitions and for various museum archives. Every single piece produced in the Úna Burke leather atelier is crafted completely by hand, from British and Italian Vegetable Tanned leathers and Italian sourced fittings. Vegetable Tanning is a method of treating the leather which is more kind to the environment so the Úna Burke brand has been awarded the Positive Luxury ‘Blue Butterfly’ seal of approval.
